It is called XP mode and is basically a full windows Xp install running virtually inside your Windows 7 installation. Have you tried setting up the virtualized XP pro install that is part of window 7 pro? The site has a pretty good search engine, so you should be able to find the instructions with a search there for "Adaptec 2906 Vista Driver 64." From what I remember of the discussion there, this edit was working with most 29XX Adaptec cards. The card now shows up as 2906 in Device Manager, but it has been working fine for almost two years. The editing was very straightforward, using Notebook.

Adaptec has not released any Windows 7 64-bit drivers for my card, but I did some searching and found instructions for editing the 2906 64-bit Vista driver in the forums at. I encountered the same issue with the Adaptec 2930CU that I was using with a couple of scanners attached under Windows 2000. If so, you can go into BIOS and check the PCI devices or turn off the splash.

The model number usually appears briefly early in the boot sequence, but it may be covered up by your BIOS splash screen.

Joe, You BIOS can usually detect and identify the SCSI card even though your operating system doesn't. I have used it for years on Win 2K, and then XP Pro with ASTI 32 driver, all installed in odd order that a Canon tech showed me how to do. I know it is an Adaptec but have to look for box of pull it out to see model.
